Leading Economists Join FTI's Economic Consulting Practice

Baltimore, MD - December 4, 2006

FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN), the leading global consulting firm to organizations confronting the critical legal, financial and reputational issues that shape their futures, today announced that Professors Daniel L. Rubinfeld and Richard J. Gilbert have joined FTI, effective immediately. Professor Rubinfeld, 61, is the Robert L. Bridges Professor of Law and Professor of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, and a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division. Professor Gilbert, 61, is a Professor of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley, and is also a former Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, where he led the development of the joint Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property. Professors Rubinfeld and Gilbert will be located in the San Francisco area, and will work closely with both FTI's Competition Policy Associates (COMPASS) and Lexecon subsidiaries.

The FTI Economic Consulting practice now includes four former Deputy Assistant Attorneys General at the U.S. Department of Justice's Antitrust Division, the title held by the chief economist at the agency. In addition to Professors Rubinfeld and Gilbert, both Bobby Willig and Janusz Ordover (from FTI's COMPASS subsidiary) served in that capacity. Dennis Carlton —formerly a Senior Managing Director of FTI's Lexecon economic consulting unit —became the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Economic Analysis in the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice on October 1, 2006, as previously announced.

About Daniel Rubinfeld

Daniel L. Rubinfeld is the Robert L. Bridges Professor of Law and Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. In December 1998, he completed an 18-month term as Deputy Assistant Attorney General at the U.S. Department of Justice, Antitrust Division. His current research interests relate directly to issues of antitrust enforcement, competition policy, law and economics, and the political economy of federalism. Professor Rubinfeld has published or edited six books and over 100 articles. Professor Rubinfeld is the author of two textbooks, Microeconomics and Econometric Models and Economic Forecasts (both with Robert Pindyck). He previously served as Associate Dean of the School of Law (as Chair of the University of California Berkeley Program in Jurisprudence and Social Policy) and as Chair of the Program in Law and Economics. Professor Rubinfeld is a past President of the American Law and Economics Association, and he is a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Bureau of Economic Research.

About Richard Gilbert

Richard J. Gilbert is a Professor of Economics at the University of California at Berkeley and adjunct Professor of Business Administration. From 1993 to 1995, he was Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice, where he led the development of the joint Department of Justice and Federal Trade Commission Antitrust Guidelines for the Licensing of Intellectual Property. Before serving in the Department of Justice, he was the Director of the University of California Energy Institute and Associate Editor of The Journal of Industrial Economics, The Journal of Economic Theory, and The Review of Industrial Organization. Professor Gilbert is past President of the Industrial Organization Society and past Vice-Chair of the American Bar Association's antitrust section committee on economics. His research specialties are in the areas of antitrust economics, intellectual property, research and development, energy markets, and public utility regulation. He is the author of numerous scholarly articles and several books. He has lectured widely and has testified in proceedings before state and federal courts, regulatory commissions, the California Legislature and the U.S. Congress.
